Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Loss Disorders

Alzheimer’s Disease is a constantly unfolding national tragedy afflicting many of our elderly. California and Monterey County certainly have not been spared. In California, we currently have 480,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s, with projected increases to 560,000 by 2020, and then to 660,000 by 2025.

(Click here to view the 2011 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures Report) (scroll to page 18 for California statistics.)

Alzheimer’s Disease is very difficult for both the afflicted individual and for Family Caregivers. There can be  a tremendous challenge of emotional stress, physical exhaustion, and affected careers for Family Caregivers. As with all of our other services, we are here to provide what you need, and to adapt to your changing needs as the disease progresses, whether you need information to navigate the process, occasional Respite Care, or around-the-clock care seven days per week. (see more on Respite Care)

We are fortunate to have a local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Monterey. They conduct education conferences for both professional and Family Caregivers, and educational seminars on specific Alzheimer’s-related issues that range from topics like how to move a loved-one into assisted living to psychological support for caregivers. (Link here for the 2011 Conference)

The Alzheimer’s Association also facilitates a number of support groups for caregivers and especially for early-stage Alzheimer’s individuals. Their programs and services occur in many of the cities and towns of Monterey County. They also provide counseling services and advisory services out of the main office in Monterey. Central Coast Senior Services, Inc. works closely with and in support of this wonderful local organization.  (Link here for Monterey Area Support Groups)
