These are links to the websites of senior service organizations in the Monterey area that may be useful to you:

Allcare Pharmacy: AllCare Pharmacy has served the special needs of seniors in Monterey County for over 70 years. With our unique services that include compliance packaging, medication synchronization, and free home delivery we give patients the ability to stay independent longer while also helping to keep them safer and more compliant with their medication therapy.

Alliance on Aging:  The Alliance on Aging is a private, non-profit organization providing services since 1970, with a mission to provide services and resources that promote optimum independence, dignity and quality of life for all Seniors in Monterey County. Among the services they provide are Senior Information and Referral, Home Share, Employment and Health Insurance Counseling. If you are feeling baffled by Medicare, HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) Director Bob Petty presents periodic updates on current Medicare topics.

Alzheimer’s Association of Monterey County: The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading national voice for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, and their families and caregivers. While the staff are rightfully proud of their many programs and services  - education, patient and family service, advocacy and research – Director Sherry Williams says, “I believe our most important role is to speak for those who no longer able to advocate on their own behalf.” Sherry and her staff at the Monterey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association are an invaluable asset to our community.

Compassionate Care Alliance: Director Vicki Nelson has set up a Caring Resources Guide with information on Advance Care Directives and Living Wills, POLST forms (Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment), and information on legal, financial, and estate planning considerations for those who are planning for or immediately facing end-of-life care. This nonprofit is working closely with local healthcare organizations, physicians and attorneys to create a more enlightened and compassionate dialog in our community on end-of-life issues.

Cynthia Healy, CPA, PFS, CSA, of Security Financial Advisors, Inc.: Cynthia’s areas of practice include Estate Planning, Probate, Trust Admin, Tax, Family Office, and Trustee Services. She has been in practice for 30 years, and is a Board Member of the Alliance on Aging.

Hospice Foundation: Hospice Foundation is a local non-profit philanthropy that accepts community donations to help fund hospice and other end-of-life care services in Monterey County and San Benito County.  Donations are a vital source of Hospice Foundation’s grants to local nonprofit care providers.  This funding helps these organizations develop, sustain, and innovate programs and services for people at the end of life and their families.  More information on their website at www.HospiceGiving.org.

Legal Services for Seniors: Senior Citizens can be the most vulnerable segment of our population, often falling victim to unscrupulous business dealings, governmental mistakes as well as serious physical and financial abuse. Legal Services for Seniors, a non-profit 501(c)(3) law firm, helps Monterey County senior citizens with many legal matters.

Meals on Wheels Monterey: This wonderful nonprofit organization serves elders in our community through services emanating from the Sally Griffin Active Living Center in Pacific Grove. They deliver meals to qualifying recipients throughout the Monterey Peninsula, and provide healthy, hearty and tasty lunchtime meals at locations on the Peninsula. They also have an amazing variety of Fitness, Wellness, Enrichment and Social Activities.

Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley: Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley believes no senior should go hungry, so they deliver meals to the home of people who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. Their nutritious meals, delivered throughout the Salinas Valley by caring volunteers, improve the health and well-being of people who are homebound, elderly or disabled, helping them to remain in their home and maintain their independence.

Ombudsman for Long Term Care: OMBUDSMAN is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens in long-term care facilities and preserving the civil and human rights of residents in these facilities. They provide an avenue for conflict resolution that may be otherwise unavailable to elderly residents of long term care facilities who are victims of neglect and or abuse, whether it is physical or sexual, emotional, verbal or financial in nature.

Shary Farr’s Partners for Transitions: The mission of Partners for Transitions is to provide personal and practical assistance to individuals and families in preparing for and coping with the uncertainties of aging, illness and end-of-life. Shary has written an excellent and comprehensive Life Planning program and has her offices in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Since 2001 she has conducted “Conversations with Life” classes at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
