Frequently Asked Questions

What will be my out-of-pocket costs to receive Home Care from Central Coast Senior Services, Inc.?

Most agencies in this area charge relatively the same amount, some a little less, some a little more. However, there may be vast differences in the Quality and Comprehensiveness of the services provided. We believe we provide superior services at a competitive rate. The actual cost depends greatly on many factors. Please call us at 831-649-3363 for a free in-home consultation to discuss your specific circumstances.

Does Medicare cover the cost of Home Care?

Unfortunately, the Medicare benefit does not cover Home Care (Medicare deems Home Care as non-medical custodial care). Medicare does cover Home Health Care if you meet the Medicare home bound criteria and qualify for Skilled Services from a Medicare licensed Home Health Agency.  You might also qualify for brief visits from a Home Health Aide. These visits are usually 30-45 minutes long to assist with a bed bath and change of bed linens or other limited duties. Call 831-649-3363 for a free in-home explanation of what Medicare covers.

Do private insurances cover the cost of Home Care?

The one type of insurance that can cover Home Care is if you have an existing Long Term Care insurance policy. If you have such a policy, our office can help you by contacting your insurer to confirm the scope of your benefits and provide all the necessary documentation so you may receive reimbursement. Click here to see a Consumer Reports article on Long Term Care Insurance.

Does Medi-Cal cover the cost of Home Care?

There is a program called In-Home Support Services offered through Medi-Cal. The services are for limited hours and days. You must first qualify for Medi-Cal by demonstrating limited income and assets. In Monterey County the program is administered by the Monterey County Department of Social and Employment Services. Click here to visit the Medi-Cal website.

Are there other payers that may help with costs of Home Care?

The other possibilities are limited to specific circumstances. For example, the Veteran’s Administration may help, and various Community Organizations may be of assistance. Click here to see more information from the National Association for Home Care.

Your Personal Attendants and Home Care Coordinators are your employees. Are they bonded and insured?

All of our employees are bonded with a $100,000 policy agency bond, and we carry liability insurance. For your protection all of our employees are covered by our $1,000,000 workers’ compensation policy.

Would I save money by hiring a private caregiver?

You may be placing yourself at great financial risk by hiring a private caregiver. (Click here to see more on this topic.)

What are the services provided by your Personal Attendants?

Bathing and Showering

Toileting and Incontinence Care

Assistance with Dressing and Grooming

Light Housekeeping: This means keeping the client living area picked up, keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean, making beds and changing linens, and laundry.

Assistance with walking and exercise, including following exercise instructions by a Physical Therapist

Meal Preparation: Planning, preparing and cleanup of tasty nutritional meals that encourage appetite and assisting with grocery shopping.

Transportation: Running errands, shopping, picking up prescriptions, and transporting to doctor appointments or social engagements. Transportation can be accomplished by driving the client’s vehicle, our Attendants’ vehicle or hired cab.

Organization: organizing mail, clipping coupons, assisting with client calendar, and arranging appointments.

Medication Assistance: Staying on track with your medications is important. We work with local pharmacies to place your medications in unit dose blister packs that are scheduled. We assist you with your medications on the prescribed schedule. Our Attendants can not administer medications.

Companionship: Providing conversation and encouragement, playing mind stimulating games, reading, participating in crafts and personal escorting to outings and events.

Pet Care: We know that your pet is a cherished companion because most of us at Central Coast Senior Services, Inc. love our pets, too. We ask about whether or not you have pets so we can provide you with a Personal Attendant who is neither allergic to or afraid of your pet, and who will be willing to provide proper care for your four-legged or beaked companions.

How long does it take to start services?

We generally can get services started very quickly. One of our Home Care Coordinators will visit you in your home or at the hospital, and once they have completed their assessment, our Staffing Coordinators will find the right Personal Attendants for your needs. The admission process goes even more quickly if you have registered with our free, no obligation Reserve Care Program. This allows us to have all you information in our system so a single phone call from you allows us to get you the assistance you need. (Click here to see more on Reserve Care)

What if I do not like my Personal Attendant?

Our Staffing Coordinators always do their best to make a good personal match. We understand that in your own home, you must be comfortable with the people assisting you. If  you are not comfortable with your Attendant, your Home Care Coordinator will work with you to resolve your concerns, which may include the need to replace the Attendant.
